Reactors Are Critical takes the form of a maximalist industrial poster. Cooling towers, server racks, a glowing reactor core, a blue artificial brain and a humanoid machine are locked into one circuit of orange energy. Above them, the oversized yellow title borrows the urgency of wartime propaganda and blockbuster advertising. The word critical performs two jobs at once. Reactors are presented as essential, but they are also critical infrastructure: systems whose reliability determines whether everything downstream can function. This standalone artwork advances a pro-nuclear compute proposition. Artificial intelligence may appear immaterial when experienced through software, yet training, inference, data centers and embodied machines all depend on continuous physical power. The composition refuses to let the viewer separate the luminous brain from the energy system feeding it. Orange current travels from reactor to racks and machine intelligence, turning electricity from background utility into the central subject. The humanoid observer further extends the argument. Compute does not remain in servers; it enters bodies that must also be manufactured, powered and operated. Because the work is not tied to one daily newsletter, it functions as a manifesto within Dr. Alex Wissner-Gross’s wider visual archive. Its propaganda style is deliberate: the image does not merely describe an energy constraint but recruits the viewer into a position on it. As a document of the transition to the Singularity, Reactors Are Critical records the era’s material reckoning. Intelligence can scale only through mines, plants, grids, cooling systems and dependable generation. The artificial brain glows blue, but the picture insists that its future is being decided in orange heat.
