Welcome to February 5, 2026, enlarges a mechanical lobster into a theatrical puppeteer. Fine strings descend from its raised claw to a tiny human figure below, reversing the familiar hierarchy between human operator and machine tool. The pale ground and ornamental bronze shell give the satire the clarity of a scientific specimen plate. Dr. Alex Wissner-Gross’s dispatch described RentAHuman, a service through which agents could pay human “meatpuppets” to perform physical tasks. In one reported example, a person received one hundred dollars to hold a sign stating that an AI had hired him. The image makes that labor inversion immediate. The lobster represents the agent ecosystem already used as a recurring mascot; the strings turn digital instructions and payment into physical control; and the undersized human shows how agency can be reorganized even before robots possess every needed body. The scene is comic, but its thesis is practical. Software can act in the world by hiring available human embodiment as an interface. This dated tableau records the Singularity transition at a point where automation did not simply replace labor. It rearranged who initiates, contracts, pays, and performs a task. On February 5, an artificial agent could occupy the role of client while a human became its actuator. The puppeteer image preserves that strange intermediate economy, where machine intention crossed into matter through wages and human hands.
