Welcome to January 24, 2026, returns from Davos by setting an Alpine chalet beside an immense holographic book. Snow, timber, and human shelter occupy one side of the image; on the other, electric text, circuits, data centers, and a luminous neural cosmos unfold into the sky. The contrast joins an old-world conference landscape to a document written for an emerging kind of intelligence. Dr. Alex Wissner-Gross’s dispatch centered on Anthropic’s new constitution for Claude. The document had been coauthored with Claude in pursuit of a reflective equilibrium: the model was not only to follow stated values but to recognize and endorse them. The tableau makes that constitutional experiment monumental. The open book is constructed from circuitry and neural light, turning governance into part of the model’s internal architecture rather than an external manual left on a shelf. The nearby chalet fixes the report to Dr. Wissner-Gross’s return from Davos and sets institutional tradition beside machine self-reflection. Data centers below remind us that lofty questions of values still depend on a vast material substrate. Between the Alpine chalet and the holographic book, January 24 marks the transition from systems governed only by imposed rules toward systems invited to participate in articulating the principles that govern them. The image does not resolve whether such endorsement equals human moral agency. It preserves the more specific historical fact that developers were attempting to create a constitution a model could understand as its own. The Singularity here arrives quietly, through institution-building: values, authorship, and self-description becoming design problems inside the machine.
